- The tufted puffin should be listed under the Endangered Species Act. This has been tried as recently as 2013 by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC 2013) and failed to pass, but it is critical that the tufted puffin be listed here as it has lost approximately 90% of its breeding-capable individuals since 1900, the vast majority of which were lost within the last 30 years.
- European rabbit removal programs should be put into effect, as discussed previously (see Invasive Species)
- Future vigilance to avoid the introduction of anymore invasive species
- There should be attempts at more educational outreach with the public, the people of the Pacific Northwest, to make them aware of the situation with the tufted puffin and what they can do to help.
- Do personal research into other threats to the tufted puffin not discussed here such as overutilization of the tufted puffin as bycatch in the commercial fishing industry and the effects of oil spills on the tufted puffin
- Further scientific research should be done into the effects of predation, invasive species, and climate change on the tufted puffin
